About PAUS

Urologists in Pakistan initially partnered with nephrologists under the Nephro-Urology Association. However, this alliance lacked cohesion and was destined to dissolve. It was under the visionary leadership of Professor Farrakh Khan that the Pakistan Association of Urological Surgeons (PAUS) was born in 1997.

In August 1997, a determined group of urologists met at Mayo Hospital, Lahore, to officially launch PAUS. Behind-the-scenes negotiations ensured broad stakeholder support. A working group was tasked with drafting the PAUS constitution.

Formative Years

• 1998: First official meeting held in Lahore. Founding office bearers were Prof. Farakh Khan (President), Prof. Riaz Tasneem (Secretary), and Dr. Salman Waris (Treasurer).
• 2000: First formal PAUS event in Lahore.
• 2001: Karachi hosted a pivotal meeting at SIUT. Dr. Masood Sheikh became President.
• 2002: The term UroCon was adopted for annual meetings.

Significant Milestones

• 2005: International UroCon in Lahore with Indian delegates. Prof. Adib ul Hasan Rizvi took over as President.
• 2006: Islamabad hosted UroCon with significantly improved scientific sessions.
• 2007: UroCon held in Peshawar with lively elections. Prof. Sajjad Hussain became President.
• 2009: Another UroCon in Lahore. Prof. Ahmed Fawad elected as President.

Today, PAUS boasts over 250+ members across 11 regional chapters and a UK chapter, fostering collaboration, scientific exchange, and improved training for urologists nationwide.
